More than 30 events, from China to Brazil, asked to join the 2027 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. Nine made the calendar. Here is how they were chosen, and why some of the sport's best-known races are not on it.
Every calendar announcement brings the same question: why isn't my favourite race on it? For 2027, the hard part was not finding races. It was choosing between them, and building a calendar that riders, teams and events can sustain.
Four tests every round has to pass
Governance. Every round is sanctioned by the FIM and run with the national federation of its country, within FIM regulations. That keeps the championship properly governed and makes sure its results stand.
Every class. A world championship round has to test the best riders in the world. It also has to give a 125cc Youth rider a route they can finish, and give women and senior riders a challenge that is tough but achievable.
Travel. Many riders and teams fund their own seasons, so the calendar has to flow from race to race without impossible travel or clashing dates. That is why 2027 keeps the rounds outside Europe to two, Silver Kings in the United States and Sea to Sky in Türkiye, and includes two rounds in Italy.
Sustainability. Events must be able to deliver the standard the championship requires, for riders, fans, broadcast and partners, year after year.
“Nine rounds keep the championship sustainable, and we have listened to the teams and riders, especially on the logistics and stress of travelling between continents.”
— Ross Whitehead, Championship Director, FIM Hard Enduro World Championship
The famous names
Following FIM guidance, the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo and Red Bull Romaniacs are not part of the 2027 championship, as their organisers run a separate ranking, the Hard Enduro World Ranking, which sits outside FIM governance. Both remain among the biggest events in the hard enduro year, and we hope they can form part of the championship in the future.
The Roof of Africa will not form part of the 2027 championship due to misalignment with the local federation.
A good problem to have
More than 30 events wanting to join shows how far hard enduro has come, and how many organisers now see the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship as the place to be. The nine events on the 2027 calendar are the ones that pass all four tests today.
The calendar will keep evolving. Event organisers interested in future seasons are welcome to get in touch.

Who does what
Five types of organisation work together to run the championship. The FIM is the governing body, which sanctions and governs it. The FIM Hard Enduro World Championship (HEWC) is the championship's official name. Hard Enduro Promotions Marketing Management LLC (HEP) holds the rights to promote it on behalf of the FIM.
National federations are governed by the FIM, work within its regulations and represent it at events in their country. Event organisers promote and run the events themselves. Joining the championship raises an event's status, and the event must then follow FIM and national federation regulations.
